Food is my life, and my family lives to eat.
I practically grew up in a restaurant watching my parents and grandparents as they started Mel’s Diner in 1989 in San Carlos Park, Florida. My dad and grandfather spent their time in the kitchen cooking EVERYTHING from scratch, while my mom and grandmother worked in the front of the house treating customers as if they were guests in our home. The joy and passion they brought to the restaurant business truly made a great impression on me.
The family business expanded over the years, and Mel’s Diner grew to 13 units. We also created two new franchises in five locations: Stevie Tomato’s Sports Page, with two locations, and Big Al’s (my first project with my dad), with three locations. Overseeing three restaurants taught me a lot about being successful in the food industry. I admired the growth, but for me it was not the the same as owning and operating one single restaurant. I missed the eating experience I remember as a child, in which our home was practically a restaurant in itself, where family and friends came to feast together -- simply and comfortably.
That’s what Mr. Big Fish is all about. A restaurant where people can relax and feel at home. Where food is familiar and comforting. Where our guests receive the freshest food with the freshest ingredients, all at a great value. Where patrons recognize the passion that goes into everything we do. Simple. Traditional. Fresh.
We offer crisp salads, hot breads, delicious chowders, fresh local seafood (delivered daily), hand-cut steaks, good wines and cold beer served in a comfortable atmosphere. Monthly and daily specials are always available.
Please do not hesitate to let us know what we can do to make your dining experience better. We are fully committed to all of you Monday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.
